Alaska Airlines - hangars

Project outlines

Improvement of light quality and significant energy savings - these were the targets that the Alaska Airlines Hangar in Seattle set for Nedap Light Controls. Naturally, we gladly accepted the challenge.

Higher light levels at lower costs!’

Alaska Airlines180 sodium lamps were replaced with 400W metal halide lamps with Nedap Luxon Eelectronic ballast 250-2000W. The results were overwhelming. Light levels increased, while the average energy consumption was reduced by 20% by dimming and switching the first rows of lamps next to the hangar doors. Besides the energy benefits, huge improvements were made in light quality as the Color Rendering Index (CRI) changed from 35 to 92 and the light level was lifted from 45 to 95 foot-candle.

Better light works
Tests indicate that human error is reduced by 50% when light sources are operated at high frequencies (no flickering of light). The Nedap Luxon electronic ballast 250-2000W (combined with improved lumen performance HID lamps) generates the flicker-free light and the higher light levels that improve overall employee performance and helps to prevent accidents and human error. Better light works! And Nedap knows how.

Key achievements

  • Better light - higher light levels, better CRI
  • Improved safety - high-frequency light reduces human error
  • Energy savings of up to 40% as a result of dimming and daylight harvesting
  • Double the lifespan of ordinary lamps
  • Increased light output of up to 15%
  • Excellent rate of return
